As the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria marks 91st Anniversary of Liberation Army’s Founding in Abuja Nigeria, Senior Colonel LIU Yongxuan, Defence Attaché to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China hosted a reception to celebrate the 91st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army of China, which falls on August 1st. The People’s Liberation Army is among the world’s largest standing armies, and it’s taking on a greater role in International Diplomacy.
The colourful ceremony, which held within the premises of the Chinese Embassy, Abuja, saw defence attachés cutting across the various embassies in Abuja, on 30th July 2018. A video about the history of the People’s Liberation Army of China of the Journey and development of the PLA was displayed at the reception.
In his remarks, the Defence attaché, Embassy of the Peoples’ Republic of China, Sr. Col LIU stressed the importance and sensational progress of the relationship between China and Nigeria, which has been developing for decades.
He noted that in the military area, the friendly exchange and pragmatic cooperation between the PLA and Nigerian Armed Forces are fruitful stating that the cooperation in defence industry between the two countries has been strengthened.
He further disclosed that the equipment of military trade and donation from China to Nigeria played a positive role in counter-terrorism, safeguarding maritime and airspace security, and other military operations by Nigerian Armed Forces.
LIU said the government and the people of China expects that the cooperation, exchange, training and military industry will continue to develop. “As things stand at the moment and going by the current cooperation between Nigeria and China in various fields, it is discernible that the Peoples’ Republic of China places high importance on Nigeria and its people and would continue to cherish the bilateral friendship.” he said.
Senior Colonel LIU reviewed the achievements of the People’s Liberation Army in the past 91 years. He hinted at the ongoing reforms in the army. LIU, relates, the PLA is moving towards becoming a first-class military entity in the world.
He introduced Chinese military’s active involvement in UN peace-keeping missions, counter-piracy missions, disaster-relieving missions and various military operations.
About 150 guests, including high-level military officers and delegates in the Nigeria attended the reception.
In attendance were the, Chief of Air Staff who was represented by the Chief of Aircraft Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Abdulganiyu Olabisi, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Dr. Zhou Pingjian, and a handful of members of the Diplomatic community.
